THE DECISION OF OUR FUTURE

Today we will talk about the high school ending.

In not a lot of time we will end ESO and start batxillerat (or mòduls) and two years after we will go to college, so we already have to know what we want to study in the future.

First of all, we think we are too young to decide what we want to do in thirty years, but in the way the education is made, we have to know it now. 

Secondly, we never had to make any important decision as difficult as this one, so we don't know how we should decide.

Plus, we aren't very informed about the options we have. 

Some of us, the teenagers, have very clear what we want to study since we were young, but some others don't even know if they want to study numbers or letters and we have nobody to talk about it, because our parents didn't study in the same system that there is now, so who should we ask for opinion?

We think someone should talk to us and inform us and the education system should be changed.

A LETTER TO THE HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Dear principal,

All the classes of 4^th of ESO would like to ask you if we can go to an excursion to improve our knowledge in some subjects.

We all agree that it is a bit hard to organize an excursion for lots of people but we don’t have any outing this trimester. Also, we know that we have to study, but students sometimes need to relax and have fun. For these reasons, we think that the best option could be a learning excursion.

We have thought about it and after searching information and places to go, we decided to do a science outing. To improve this subject, we could go to the science museum. Apart of that, the museum has already opened a new section about genetic information and this is the unit that we are studying.

Yesterday, all of us voted to decide the day and the winner day was June 11th. We think that it’s a good day because we will have finished all the exams. If you want, you can change the day but if it is possible the week of Monday 11th it would be better.

DOGS

SAINT GEORGE

A lot of people don’t know what that is about but here in Catalonia it’s a traditional day. Because here we celebrate it giving a rose to your girlfriend and a book to your boyfriend but if you like you can give a rose or a book to an important person, too.

At the high school we celebrate it in a funnier way. The days before this day we can buy a rose to give to another person but we have different categories to buy. We can pay different prices. If we pay more, a person can go to  the classroom of the person you choose and give him or her the rose .

THE MOVIE

The movie is “The guardians of the galaxy”, it is a movie of action and comedy in which heroes come out who are the guardians of the galaxy, who go with the ships visiting other planets. The protagonist is Peter who is a stolen boy from the earth to be looter "steal things on other planets" in the end fight against his enemy who is a friend of Tanos who is the most powerful being in the galaxy and his friend takes away the site because it gains strength with a stolen orve" After stealing it, the guardians of the galaxy have to save it, so they fight against the friend of Tanos and they manage to win and everything becomes like before.

DANCE

Dance is the sport which is normally more popular with girls, but boys do it too.

First you have to stretch and then you can start dancing.

In La Garriga there are three dance schools:

•      Interdansa
•         Tukupracum
•      Disset

There are different types of dances:

•         Jazz
•      Contemporary
•         Classical
•         Hip Hop
•         Break dance
•         And more types

When you dance very well you can go to competitions, for example in Huesca the competition´s name is Niginsky. Also, in Burgos the name is Dance World Cup of Spain.

In Classical, you can have exam:

It comes a girl from London and she evaluates you. In September you can go to the dance school and the secretary gives the mark. If you pass you get a medal!

Saint George's Day

The 23rd of April is an important day in Catalonia. It is Saint George’s Day. This day is special because it has a special legend.

The legend is about a dragon that was scaring a kingdom and attacking its people every day. To calm the dragon, the king of the kingdom decided to make a random sacrifice to feed the dragon. One day, the daughter of the king was selected to be eaten by the dragon. When the dragon was ready to eat the princess, a knight called George appeared and killed the dragon. From the dragon’s blood it appeared a rose and George gave it to the princess.

Nowadays, on this day boys give roses to girls, and girls give a book to boys. In the centre of our village there are stalls full of roses and books and people of the village or other people go there to buy roses and books.

And in our high school students from all courses buy roses to help students of 1^st Batxillerat pay the end of year trip.

What to do at Easter

This Easter you can do a lot of things but we will recommend you some things. If you would like to join some activities and you have no idea what to do, keep reading.

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, you can visit Barcelona. There are a lot of things to do in Barcelona like going to the beach or visiting the Sagrada Familia. How many times have you been to the Sagrada Familia?

Another option is to go skiing. Skiing is an incredible experience that a lot of people like and there is a lot of snow in the mountains.

Richie’s Expedition

Once upon a time there was an alien named Richie who travelled to the Earth to keep his species from disappearing. He had the power of transforming into anything he wanted to.

On the Earth, Richie met a girl named Mary who at first was afraid of him but they ended up having a baby. Later, the police became aware of Richie and started looking for him as they thought he wanted to kill everyone in the planet.

Soon, Richie and Mary’s baby died and the police thought that Richie had killed him. After that, the police realised that he could transform into anything and that made it more difficult to recognise him.

Years passed by and Richie was living happily with Mary until the police located him and chased him. They went to their house and killed Mary by accident thinking Richie had transformed into her to escape.

After all, Richie realised he hadn’t achieved his aim so he returned to his planet.

Benefits and drawbacks of having a dog

Nowadays a lot of people own a dog as a pet, but is it really worth it?

Many studies prove that having a dog helps the owners to deal with the daily stress and can help them to cope with anxiety. Having a dog is good for lonely people as it provides company and love. According to many researches, the most efficient depression treatments are the ones that include interaction with animals.

On the other hand, having a puppy includes some unpleasant stuff like having your furniture destroyed, having the sofa full of hair and not being able to sleep as much as you would like to. You must understand that a dog isn’t a toy and requires a lot of care. If the dog gets sick, you will have to take it to the vet and it will cost a lot of money.

On balance, having a dog is worth it if you can afford having one. The point is that dogs have a lot benefits but sometimes people don’t consider the cons and then they wish they had never got one. To avoid that, make sure you really want to have one and you have resources to maintain one.

THE HUNGER GAMES

We are going to explain a series of books which are very popular. The name of this trilogy is The Hunger Games.

Katriss lives in District 12 with her mother and her sister, Prim. One day there is a raffle to choose the people who go to the hunger games. Prim is the selected person but Katriss says that she wants to be a volunteer to save her sister. Peta is the other selected person in this district. Later they have to go to a place with the other people from the other districts. There they have to choose a weapon. Katriss chooses a bow. After that the game starts. All viewers are very excited with the love story between Katriss and Peta. But all is a fake.

HOP!

This is a traditional Easter day film about the Easter rabbit. The name of the rabbit is Hop.

A human hurts him during the Easter day and the human has to help him . The human becomes the Easter rabbit and he delivers the Easter eggs,  but suddenly the partner of the rabbit who is a chick destroys all the Easter eggs of the rabbit because he is jealous of him. After lots of adventures the rabbit and the chick become good friends again. They live lots of experiences full of risks and they discover friendship.

EASTER

At Easter we celebrate a lot of different things, for example, we eat a lot of chocolate usually in the shape of monkey or in a cake. A lot of people enjoy this week because they can stay with their family and friends.

The cake called ‘mona’ is usually given by your godfather but if you don’t have one, you buy it.

The godfather is chosen by your family and gives you a lot of presents and a lot of love.

You also go with your family and your “palm” and walk in the town.

During this week you don’t go to school or work. It’s holiday and we can enjoy a lot with people, family and friends.

Why is there a strike on Thursday, May 10?

The Student Union has called a student strike on May 10 against "the scandalous sentence" of the five members of La Manada, which "has shocked millions of women" and also "a majority of men with conscience."

In addition to calling to paralyze classes in institutes and universities, the Student Union and the Free and Combative platform call "all youth and everyone" to attend the meetings that will take place at 12:00 noon in localities and cities.

"In this great strike we will express our outright rejection of this patriarchal and macho justice, demanding the expulsion of the judiciary from the judges responsible for this aberrant sentence, against the corruption of the PP and its attacks on democratic rights."

Also, the Student Union has emphasized in a statement that it wants to show "all the solidarity of the students with the victim of this horrendous aggression".

INSIDE THE SQUARE THERE'S PASSION

Sant Jordi is one of the most famous days in Catalonia. The 23rd of April, most of the people in Catalonia go out to see the stands in the streets where you can buy books and roses for this special day.

La Garriga is a small town but when it’s Sant Jordi all the people from around come to see how it is. Some stands are in the main street that connects the two main squares in our town, but those stands are from schools and organisations. However, the prettiest stands are in`Can Dachs´ square.

The atmosphere in the square was impressive; there were kids running and having fun while their parents were looking at all the amazing books and roses. Radio Silenci was interviewing people. Catalans think that Sant Jordi is the most romantic day to spend the time with your partner and people inlove, but some of the teenagers give roses or books to their friends.

A feeling of joy invades you when the smell of roses impregnates you while walking in the decorated streets of La Garriga. Young people share with you love poems and the managers of the stands share with you cookies or some pictures about Sant Jordi’s legend. The music spreads through the town and makes you want to dance everywhere. When people finish visiting all the stands they spend time meeting friends, family or their partner on this special day while they drink something refreshing on the sunny day.

Simply, in the square of Can Dachs you can feel the passion that there is on this day. When you enter in the square a feeling of happiness invades your body and you feel as if you were in another world where the only thing there are- roses, books and people passionately in love with Sant Jordi.

HELP THE PENGUINS!

Hello!

We are here to collect money for a campaign to help the penguins. The Antarctica is getting hotter, and we have to do something to change it, because if we don’t, soon, the penguins won’t have any space to live.

Think, what would you do if you hadn’t been born in the family you had been born in? How would you feel? Think about the penguins and their home we are destroying. We need to start taking care of others and be less selfish.

We are collecting money in our website, in our local and in the streets, you can help us by donating some money, it doesn’t have to be too much. You can also help us by giving us money, polluting less, wasting less water… and doing little things that will help the penguins and other animals.

We think that the world is of all of us, and that if we don’t take care of it, soon, we and lots of animals will die because we don’t take care about polluting.

THE STATUE OF LIBERTY

Statue of Liberty is situated on a tiny island, Liberty Island, New York. It is a large turquoise woman elevated on a base. On the right hand, it has a torch and on the other hand, it holds some papers. Also, on the head it has a crown. It wears a robe like the dresses that wore the romans in the past. It is one of the monuments more recognized around the world.

It was a present from Françe in the XIX century for the celebration of the centenary of the independence of the United States of America. It became a symbol of freedom, especially to welcome all the Europe immigrants that came to USA to find freedom and new opportunities. The torch symbolizes the light, the papers that it hold, symbolizes the law and the crown, that had seven skipes, means the seven continents.

Nowadays, people can visit it and they also can enter and go to the top. From the crown, that has some windows, they can see all the city. Although it is pretty big but only 70 people can enter at the same time. Inside, on the first floor, there is a shop where people can buy some souvenirs about the statue. There are lots of funny things like key rings, pens, pencils, notebooks, masks, clothes…

If some day you plan a travel to New York you cannot forget to visit it. You will have a spectacular day.

OUR PERFECT PLACE TO LIVE?

That’s a question that we ask us every day since we first met. Our favourite place needs to have a lot of green places, no pollution, kind neighbours and historical places to visit.

We know that this is very hard to find, and even harder to live in, but we really want to. And today we are going to show you a few places we would like live in.

1-      Thailand: It has very good landscapes, beautiful beaches, the contamination is really low and the population is always trying to help you with everything you need and try to make you feel comfortable. The weather is very good for the people who like sea, because it has a very dump weather.

2-      Germany: Germany is considered one of the best places to live. The people who lives there are the happiest in the world. There are lot of jobs and the workers get paid really well. About studies, it is one of the countries with the best marks. Germany’s weather is perfect for the people who love to stay at home watching a movie, it’s always cold.

3-      Australia: Australia is known for all the endanger animals that live there, but what people don’t know is that it is one of the most beautiful countries that you can visit. It’s a really rich county, with some amazing beaches and mountains. You have to pay a tax to live, but we can guarantee it is worth it. It has some of the best schools in the world.

DONATE MONEY TO HELP POOR KIDS GOING TO SCHOOL

How would you feel if you couldn’t go to school? Surely you would feel bad, but nowadays there are a lot of children that can’t go to school because their families haven’t got enough money and resources.

From here, we want to help all that children that want to go to school but they can’t. So that, some years ago, we decided to start this campaign. We are some students with an open mind and we love helping people. We started helping people to solve small problems or more individual questions, but one day, we realized that we could do something to help more people at the same time to solve a more commune question like unschooling.

To carry out this matter, we wanted to sell something that could be useful and collect enough money. We decided to sell school material because as we are students and we sell that on school, the other students can use it more than other things. Moreover, all of our products to sell has our logo, so that, we can also advertise people. If you don’t want anything to buy, you can only give us some money! Then, at the end of the year, we will count all money and we spend them to give to the families some grants.

Now that you know more about us, you can join and apport some money. If all of us give five euros every week we can make the change that a lot of children are waiting for.

BRITISH PUBS

The most common names are:

·       The names are about animals, colours, and stuff like that.

The decoration is rustic; they have decorations like in the west. With wood, old pictures, billiards, all the things you imagine when you see a film inspired in the west.

The food of the pubs it’s not really recommended because it’s food that you can cook in the microwave in only one minute. The most famous foods of pubs are: Pickles Eggs, Lasagne and Fish and Chips. They are licensed to sell alcoholic drinks, beers and cider. Pubs have venues for pubs songs and live music. During the 1970s pubs provided an outlet for a number of bands.

You cannot smoke because of a law that banishes smoking in the clubs. There you can celebrate all you want. The children cannot enter in the clubs passed the seven of the night.

PAINTBALL

Is the game that is played with pistols and have balls of paint, that’s why it's called paintball. The game consists of shooting another person in the opposite team and trying to avoid getting shot yourself.

Must be played in a big territory like in the middle of the forest because the players have to hide so that it is more difficult for other players to find and shoot and the player. If they get shot they “die”. Wins the team which has the most players alive.

THE PHONE

The phone is dangerous because the people are addicted and don’t have time for their families. Looking at the phone while crossing the street or when driving can cause many accidents. These accidents often can have very bad consequences.

All people in all place have a phone in their hand and they don´t interact with other people because they prefer to stay with the phone. Play games or interact on social media instead of face to face.

The phone destroys the communication with friends, family and other people. We often notice that in places like public transport, everyone is focused on their phones.

HOW TO DO AN EXCHANGE PROGRAM

The exchange program is a way to learn languages which consists of: 

You go to the house of your exchange friend learning the language of the country that you are in, while he/she is in your house learning the language of your country, and their culture, eating their food and things like this. You can’t speak in your language because they don’t understand you.

There are places to exchange like Wales or Catalonia where you can learn two languages or choose one of the two languages, the one that you prefer.

And this is how to do an exchange program.
