GENERAL STRIKE IN CATALONIA

These days in Catalonia a lot of incidents have happened. The first of October was the day that we had to vote, but we were interrupted by the police. The police broke a lot of windows of many schools.

The people were calm but the police was very aggressive. 893 people were injured. The police broke a girl’s fingers. All these things caused that the people didn’t go to work or to school on the third of October because we were very angry about what had happened that day.

We hope that everything will finish well. To solve things we don’t need to use violence.

CAPITAL PUNISHMENT

Since the existence of the times, capital punishment has been the biggest punishment in prisons. A long time ago, the execution often involved torture with cruel methods such as the breaking wheel. Now, fifty-six countries use this punishment legally, like the USA, and six countries have by law that if someone commits a crime in war, this person has to die by death penalty. There are countries where the capital punishment isn’t legal, for example the European countries (Spain, France, Italy, Germany, England, etc)

What do we think? We think that the capital punishment has to be legal all around the world, because… Why does someone have to be killed and the person that killed him or her continues alive? Why does someone have to rape a woman, a child or anybody and continues with his normal life?
We think that prison isn’t enough for someone that has killed or raped, for example terrorists, they have hurt a lot of people and they are still alive and we give them food and somewhere to live in prison, we think they don’t deserve that.

In conclusion, we think that capital punishment should be legal in our country, Spain.

TEACHERS

In the world there are three types of teachers.

The teacher that doesn’t explain.
This type of teacher spends all the time saying that we have to do activities but they don’t explain the activities or the topics.  We hate this type of teachers, because when the day of the exam arrives you don’t know anything.

The teachers that explains but  incorrectly.
This type of teacher explains but doesn’t know what they are saying and they explain things in a bad way so at the end students understand nothing.

The teacher that explains well.
This type of teacher explains well and you understand the topics, for example, all the teachers from El Racó, that is why most of the students love these teachers.

There are more types of teachers, but these are the most common ones.

We hope you have enjoyed our article.

Our music tastes

Music is a universal language that everybody understands and there are many types of it in the world. Today we’re going to talk about our music preferences. The most popular type of music is Pop, but each country has its own one.

We’re from Spain and here the traditional music is Flamenco, but we live in Catalonia where Sardanes are the traditional music. However, now Catalan Rumba is getting more famous. In Mexico their folklore music is played by Mariachis.
Nowadays Reaggeton is the most popular music around Hispanic countries like Colombia, Argentina and Spain.

Marta’s Opinion: My favourite type of music is Pop but I like other types of music like Rap, too.

Raquel’s Opinion: I like listening to different types of music but my favourite are Pop, Techno and Catalan Rumba.

Marc’s Opinion: I like different types of music but my favourite are Pop, Rock and Classical Music.

The biggest cake in the world

In 2011 Steve Jones overcame a big challenge. He made the biggest cake in the world.

Steve was born in Los Angeles in 1966. When he was a child he really liked cooking and he had always helped his parents to cook. Later, when he was 15 he started in pastry making and some years after he became one of the best pastry chefs in the world.

So when he was 45 years old, a millionaire couple ordered a cake for their wedding and they wanted the biggest cake in the world. The cake had 10 layers and each one was 20 cm high, so in total it was 2 meters high. The first layer was 15.61 meters of diameter. Steve spent two weeks preparing it and the final cake costed 375 dollars. The inside of the cake was all cream and on the outside it was all covered with blue and rose fondant with white leaves above. It was very beautiful. Some days later, this story was published in an international record book. There are some other pastry chefs that have tried to overcome this big record but they haven’t been able to do it.

Today, Steve Jones is already retired. This cake was very, very important for him because it was the last project in which he worked. In his last interview he said that he was very sad to leave this job but he also said that he’d left it on the top and he was proud about it. Moreover, he was happy because he said that now he wanted to travel around the world and meet new experiences.

We haven't found the real cake but this one is the one that looks more like it.

The Catalan Referendum

The 1st October 2017 a football match in Camp Nou was played without spectators because all the police was in the street due to the referendum in Catalonia, so if they had a problem the police couldn’t attend. Another reason was to protest about democracy. Gerard Piqué (a Barça football player) complained and helped Catalan people to protest about the referendum.

A lot of people went to schools to vote in the referendum and to avoid the police taking up the ballot boxes. People held their hands up because they didn’t want violence but the police started beating people and picking up the ballot boxes. All started because the government of Spain forbade people to vote for the independence. Because of this, a lot of people started to demonstrate and took part in an illegal referendum. The National Police and Guardia Civil started to take up the ballot boxes with violence and Els Mossos d’Esquadra who are Catalan helped the population. It was a terrible day and a historic day too…

BULLYING

Bullying is the physical or psychological damage that a person receives from others.

Bullying is very common in primary schools and sometimes in secondary schools. There are 4 types of bullying, physical, verbal, psychological and social. The physical one is normally when the students hit, push, kick, or attack other students using objects.  It happens more frequently in primary than in secondary school.

Another type of bullying is the verbal one, which consists in insults and nicknames, highlighting physical defects, etc. It is the most common one. The psychological one is the way these students manipulate their partners’ self-esteem and increase their sense of insecurity. The last type is the social bullying. It consists in moving away the victims from their classmates and friends trying to leave them alone.

We think that bullying shouldn’t exist and it’s terrible because school is a period of time to have fun and not to do this kind of things.
