Every year, forty days before Easter the
carnival festival takes place in Brazil. This tradition began in Roman Catholic
times because it was the moment when Catholics removed meat from their diet
until Easter. Since then, this tradition has continued until nowadays, when we
know it as a festival. In Rio de Janeiro it is usually celebrated with parades
and music like samba, marchinhas, pop
and rock.
Last year approximately two million people
went to Rio de Janeiro's carnival to enjoy the carnival because this is
probably the most important festival of Brazil. The society of Brazil invests a
lot of money in creating awe-inspiring floats. However, it is also celebrated
in other countries and cities like: Venice, Barcelona, Tenerife… It has such influence
that it is even celebrated in our village. Every school presents a float,
choreography and a costume related to one topic. At the end of the day there’s
a competition and the winners have a reward.
Personally, we love this festival and really
enjoy taking part on it.
